Description

This painting makes me happy, it evokes a sense of celebration and joy. My husband told me it s his favourite of mine this year, which actually surprised me as it s so pink – he said it just makes him smile .
It s been a while since I last painted a floral and so I really took my time with this piece. Each blossom and leaf has many, many layers of colour and pattern woven into it.

Combining loose and gestural linework with the magic of alcohol dropped onto watery paint layers to create circles and patterns- each leaf is unique. I am fascinated by the rustic beauty of gum leaves in nature and I love to experiment with that in my art. Rather than focus on realism I just play with the shapes and colours, which I don t get to do too often in my highly detailed bird portraits.

The colours in this artwork are so quintessentially Australian, I adore this combination.

I hope this piece brings joy and happiness to it s new forever home too.
